1. You Make My Dreams’ – Hall and Oates

This wonderful 80s hit is used in countless feel-good films such as The Wedding Singer, 500 Days of Summer and more recently, Ready Player One. This song never fails to bring a smile to my face whenever I hear it!

2. Dancing On My Own’ – Robyn

One of my most favourite tv moments is on the episode ‘All Adventurous Women Do’ of Girls. For those who are familiar with the show, you will remember the iconic scene mentioned once you hear the intro beat of this hit. Whether you like Lena Dunham or not, you will find it hard to keep from dancing once this song starts to play!

3. Praise You’ – Fatboy Slim

This song is great to listen to if you’re cruising down the highway on a nice sunny day! Even more so if you are accompanied by someone you love and your ride is a 1956 Jaguar Roadster. Cruel Intentions is such a brilliant film.

4. Ho Hey’ – The Lumineers

Released in 2012, ‘Ho Hey’ did incredibly well on the Billboard Hot 100. This song was originally performed to get under the skin of concertgoers in Brooklyn. The creators included shouts in the middle of the song in order to get the attention of disinterested audience members. Even though loneliness is at the forefront of this tune, knowing that this song deeply connects with many individuals, and knowing that everyone faces the trials of loneliness, is especially grounding.

5. The Middle’ – Jimmy Eat World

I remember putting this song on constantly when I was in high school. ‘The Middle’ is an upbeat anthem to remind yourself to have faith and have the courage to follow your own path.

6. Dog Days Are Over’ – Florence + The Machine

One of the best songs to dance to, whether you are sober or drunk. If you’ve ever seen Florence Welch perform live, you’ll remember her whimsical fairy-like persona and will want to run off into the woods and have a forest jamoboree whenever you hear this song.

7. Listen To The Man’ – George Ezra

This music video filmed for this tune is one of the cutest videos you’ll ever see. It features a very sweet appearance by Sir Ian McKellen and the beat is so charmingly infectious, it will stay in your mind for hours.

8. Canned Heat’ – Jamiroquai

This song came out in the year 1999. It has become popularised in the movies Center Stage and Napoleon Dynamite. If you ever need a song that’ll make you want get up from your seat to boogie, this is it!

9. We’re Going To Be Friends’ – The White Stripes

This song shares the story of connecting with a new friend and it will bring you back into simpler times in your childhood. It is one of the most nostalgic acoustic songs that will signify a time in your life where stress was not even a concept.

10. Started From The Bottom’ – Drake

Whether you’re a fan of Drake or not, this hit song is an instant ego-booster and mood uplifter. While many people regard this song as an internet meme, it’s still a brilliant song to pop on and ‘sing’ along to.

11. ‘Please Mr. Postman’ – The Marvelettes

There are many renditions of ‘Please Mr. Postman’, but the 1961 original is truly something special. If you listen intently, you can hear the soul in their voices and another thing that’s really cool about this song is that Marvin Gaye played the drums on this track!

12. Heart Of Glass’ – Blondie

One of the most prolific disco songs of the late 70s / early 80s! It’s funny to note that Blondie originally intended this song to be a lot slower and that this disco hit was only meant to be a ‘novelty’.

13. Shake It Off’ – Taylor Swift

What do you do when someone hits you with cold and mean comments? Put on this song and just shake it off!

14. I’m Yours’ – Jason Mraz

This song was incredibly loved on the Billboard charts and spent over 70 weeks on the Hot 100. ‘I’m Yours’ is a heartwarming reminder for us to stop caring so much about what other people think about us and to embrace being here, in the moment.

15. Don’t Stop Me Now’ – QUEEN

According to scientific findings, this song is the world’s most uplifting song. Just listen to this song and see it’s effortless way in making you feel amazing!

16. Good Day Sunshine’ – The Beatles

Of course I had to include a song by The Beatles! Written by Sir Paul McCartney, this song illustrates how it feels to be happy in love, in the summertime, underneath the warmth of sunshine.
